Lomi Lomi relaxes the nervous system, increases circulation and creates a tangible sense of well being. It is useful for maintaining health, and relieving pain from injury and debilitating illness. It is the "dance of massage," and is as wonderful to give as to receive.
The Hawaiian martial art known as "Lua" had elements of karate and jiu jitsu. In fact, Lua was known as a "bone breaking" martial art. The name "Lua" refers to the number "two". In other words, Hawaiian warriors were once trained to "harm or heal." These "gentle" warriors practiced Lua and Lomi Lomi. They were both fighters and healers. Knowledge of treating injuries such as fractures and dislocations was very valuable to these warriors. Interestingly they are also credited with inventing the Hula.
Lomi Lomi is a rejuvenating massage, bringing restoration to the whole anatomy and is often referred to as "Restorative Massage" since it has such a positive effect on health.
